Drag Queen School

There is one in Santiago! Although I’ve enjoyed the delights of gender-bending folk (queer, straight or whatever) for years, I’ve never heard of this before. Chilenos use the word “travesti” to describe people who wear non-standard dress that doesn’t conform to traditional gender divisions and “transformista” to talk about performers in drag. Here is a video clip from Chilevision, respectfully showcasing the Academia del Arte para Transformistas “Del Castillo” practicing to walk and move like women – albeit the stereotyped version of the high heel strutter. I simply enjoy how straightforward the presentation on mainstream television is. So much has changed in the five years I’ve been living here. This is a good vid to catch on to the Chilean accent as well.
